Rockcorry Divers Support Lusitania Exploration with HistoricalFX
Rockcorry Divers & North Coast Search and Recovery are proud to announce our involvement in one of the most important underwater heritage projects of our time — the ongoing exploration and documentation of the RMS Lusitania.
Six members of our club are currently part of the Project 17 Lusitania team, contributing directly to research efforts surrounding this iconic shipwreck.
The Lusitania, sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland in 1915, remains one of the most significant maritime disasters of the 20th century. The loss of 1,198 lives not only shocked the world but also played a pivotal role in shifting public opinion during World War I. More than a century later, the wreck continues to capture the attention of historians, archaeologists, and divers alike.
Two of our members have been involved in Lusitania expeditions for over eight consecutive years and have taken part in ten fast-paced, highly focused missions to the wreck site. Their dedication and experience have proven invaluable in helping to gather data, assess the condition of the wreck, and uncover insights that might otherwise remain buried beneath the Atlantic.
We’re honoured to play a part in preserving this powerful piece of history and to contribute meaningfully to a broader understanding of the Lusitania’s story — not only as a vessel of war-time tragedy but also as a cultural and historical touchstone.
In support of this work, we also encourage everyone to explore a remarkable new digital experience created by HistoricalFX. This interactive platform presents a deeply researched, visually rich portrayal of the Lusitania’s final voyage, its passengers and crew, and the wider historical context of its sinking. Whether you’re a historian, diver, student, or simply curious, this resource offers a compelling way to engage with one of the most defining maritime events of the last century.
